** See the report on the Forum outcome. **

When: Monday 25th August 2008
9:30am for 10:00am start

Where: Environmental Learning Facility
Orange Showgrounds
Leeds Parade, ORANGE NSW

Why:  A one day public forum to discuss the growing campaign to stop mining companies from damaging local water supplies, and to compel the NSW Government to place the future of our state's water resources ahead of the interests of mining companies.

Western NSW is awash with mines that are threatening scarce water supplies.  Locals are battling these mines independent of each other, up against the divide and conquer tactics of mining companies.   The forum is an opportunity to come together and seek a common way forward.

Who: Hosted by NSW Greens MP and mining spokesperson, Lee Rhiannon.

MINING AND WATER - COMMUNITIES REPORT

We invite all participants or groups to contribute a summary of  their local issues and concerns relating to mining and water.

We want to publish these summaries in a report, similar to the report we prepared following the Coal Communities forum held in 2005. (download report - 2MB pdf)

By sharing ideas and experiences communities can collaborate to get better outcomes for their local water supplies and to protect the environmental values of mining affected areas.

Please submit the following:
  • 300 - 500 word summary of local issues
  • a photograph
  • contact details
  • links to a website
